There is only one period during the year when the feeling of “rebirth” takes place in the nature that surrounds us, a feeling accompanied by sensations of freshness, warmth, hope and beauty, all happening when the season we call spring starts to take place.
Everybody loves spring because it is the season which awakes from numbness, the season when love blossoms because the hearts and senses of humans are being caressed by the beauties of nature. There cannot be a person who can whole-heartedly claim that he or she doesn’t enjoy spring.
The changes that take place in the shift from winter to spring, gradual as they are, bring the idea of a new beginning and of prosperity for the year that has started. The nature that surrounds us, a manifestation of our planet Earth, is the environment that hosts and influences our lives in a significant measure. So, when spring comes and winter ends, in their contrasting beauties, new ideas and feelings begin to take place in the human’s minds. The blossoming of trees and flowers, the green color that grass starts to display once again, the warm light brought by the happier sun, the animals that come out from their winter hiding places, all these things together bring a new dimension to the human life, which has been vastly depicted across time in so many shapes of art.
Of course that the predominant form of art that depicts spring is visual art, although literature and music also bring images of springs through words and musical notes or sounds. However, we would like to concentrate on the visual representations of spring, maybe interpreting the paintings and photographs as attempts of the human beings to bring spring into their one home.
When thinking about images of springs depicted into paintings, photograph or digital art, what comes up to your mind? Here is what we have come up with.Although there are many things to indicate the changing of the season, nothing is as potent or as beautiful as spring flowers. After having spent a chilly, white winter, most people are thrilled to see the slashes of color, and smell the heady fragrances of wild-growing blooms; not to mention the excitement of seeing your own bright garden finally starting to come to fruition. The Ostara Ritual is another good example, as alters for this particular occasion are also decorated with fresh spring flora – like crocuses and bright green leaves – as they represent the newness of nature.
